Harry Mutschler is a sports scientist and founder of Altitude Balance, specializing in hypoxic training for health, rehabilitation, and human performance.
For almost 20 years, he has been developing and implementing individualized hypoxia concepts, ranging from intermittent hypoxic training (IHT/IHHT) to active altitude training and hypoxic rooms.
His work connects science with practical application and includes collaborations with doctors, researchers, rehabilitation centers and physicians, as well as with Olympic training centers and international elite sports teams.

Hypoxia is much more than just altitude training for athletes. A controlled reduction in oxygen availability represents a powerful physiological stimulus that can trigger adaptive responses at the cellular, cardiovascular, and metabolic levels.
In this presentation, sports scientist Harry Mutschler offers a practical introduction to the physiological principles of hypoxic training and explains how controlled hypoxic stimuli can be integrated into the concepts of health, therapy, and rehabilitation.
The presentation will cover the following topics: Basic mechanisms of adaptation to hypoxia, different levels of physiological response, and the main forms of hypoxic training, from passive intermittent hypoxia and intermittent hypoxia training to active training and prolonged exposure to hypoxia.
Special attention will be paid to mitochondrial adaptation, metabolic regulation, cardiovascular responses, regeneration and exercise tolerance, followed by practical examples of how hypoxic training can be used in physiotherapy, rehabilitation, prevention and performance.
The goal is to move beyond the idea of hypoxia as a tool exclusively for elite athletes and demonstrate how “oxygen deprivation” can become a precisely controlled stimulus for adaptation and rehabilitation.
