Description
Dafilon® suture is a non-absorbable, monofilament synthetic surgical thread made of polyamide (6/6.6) , specifically designed to ensure smooth tissue passage, high biological compatibility, and maximum knot security . Ideal for applications in plastic surgery, dermatology, microsurgery, and highly demanding skin closures .
Strengths:
- Compatibility and biocompatibility: Excellent tissue tolerance with minimal inflammatory reaction.
- Smooth passage through tissues: Its smooth surface reduces trauma during suturing.
- High knot security: Reliable knot tension retention, with adequate tensile strength.
- Flexibility and manageability: Good balance between firmness and malleability, especially in USP sizes 2/0–6/0.
- Less tissue drag: Being monofilament, it generates less friction compared to multifilament sutures.
- Reduced risk of infection: The smooth structure minimizes bacterial adhesion compared to braided threads.
- Variety of gauges and needle-thread combinations: Available from USP 11/0 to USP 5 (metric) with multiple types of adapted needles.
- Available colors: Blue, black or colorless depending on the required presentation.
Technical characteristics:
- Guy Non-absorbable synthetic suture, polyamide (nylon) monofilament
- Chemical composition Polyamide 6 and/or polyamide 6.6
- Range of calibers From USP 11/0 (0.1 metric) to USP 5 (7 metric)
- Colors Blue, black or colorless (“undyed”)
- Compatible needles Wide variety: reverse, cutting, Dermaslide®, etc.
- Sterilization Ethylene oxide (for thin gauges) / gamma irradiation (for medium gauges)
- Strength retention Non-absorbable → maintains tension over time, although gradual degradation by hydrolysis may occur (like all nylon sutures)
- Main indications Skin closure, plastic surgery, microsurgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, soft tissue closures
- Structural advantage Less drag, better glisse, knot strength, smooth and soft surface
Recommended uses:
- Skin closure in dermal and aesthetic interventions.
- Microsurgery and ophthalmic surgery (especially in very fine calibers).
- Neurosurgery and delicate procedures where reliable non-absorbable sutures are required.
- Plastic surgery and reconstruction where aesthetics and minimal tissue reaction are critical.
