Sutures

Absorbable and non-absorbable sutures

Absorbable sutures are mainly used to close internal wounds, such as those produced in abdominal, cardiovascular or gynecological surgeries, where the subsequent removal of sutures would be inconvenient. Their main advantage is that it is not necessary to remove them, which reduces the risk of infection associated with extraction. Additionally, the gradual absorption process coincides with the natural healing time of tissues, which promotes optimal recovery. They are ideal for tissue approximation, ligatures and general surgery.

Nonabsorbable sutures are made of non-biodegradable materials, such as nylon, polypropylene or silk , which are resistant to degradation in the body's biological environment. Due to their permanence, non-absorbable sutures are used in areas where long-term retention of attached tissues is required, such as in the skin, tendons or ligaments. They are also used in ophthalmic and cardiac surgeries, where a durable and safe suture is essential.
