Description
Indicated for patients with cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD, asthma and lung diseases with secretion problems
The acapella choice vibratory system is a device that provides PEP Positive Expiratory Pressure. The device combines PEP and vibration produced by intermittent resistance. The vibrations (carried out by intermittent airflow) agitate and loosen mucus from the walls of the lung passages and up into the larger airways from where they are coughed up.
With the force of the PEP , the air passes behind the mucus that blocks the airways and when exhaling it opens them and promotes the mobilization of the mucus. Facilitates the removal of secretions .
Acapella Choice: It is better tolerated than other techniques and facilitates the passage of mucus through the airways in diseases of the respiratory system in general.
Strengths:
- Versatile to be used on virtually any patient
- Easy to use, allows you to inhale and exhale without removing it from your mouth.
- Easy to clean
- Allows reproducible therapies.
base endowment:
- Removable mouthpiece (the end of the device adapts to the mask
- Respiratory rate/resistance adjustment dial
- Removable lid
- Removable rocker unit (the rocker arm is NOT disassembled from its base platform)
- It is easy to clean
Technical characteristics:
- It has a one-way inspiratory valve and 22 mm male connector
- Resistance and respiratory flow adjustment dial
- It is translucent green
- Class II product a. not sterile
- CE mark 0473
- Does not contain latex
- The material from which it is made is polycarbonate and polysulfones
- It is designed to work independently of orientation (gravity)
- Allows reproducible therapies
Instructions for use:
For single patient use:
1. Initial settings
1.1 If this is your first time using the acapella® choice device, make sure the frequency adjustment dial is turned to the lowest frequency-resistance value
1.2 The patient has to relax while performing diaphragmatic breathing and inspiring a volume of air greater than the normal tidal volume (but not the total lung capacity)
1.3 The patient actively exhales through the device to their functional residual capacity
1.4 The dial is then adjusted to increase the resistance
1.5 The patient should be able to exhale for 3-4 seconds while the device vibrates. Adjustment from left to right increases the resistance of the vibrating orifice, allowing the patient to exhale at a lower velocity. Right to left adjustment reduces resistance
1.6 Once the correct range has been identified, the patient can be instructed to exhale more or less forcefully, the dial can be adjusted to optimize the response the user “feels” to the vibratory pressure
Check that the dial is set to the correct range as identified by the clinician
2. Sit with your elbows resting comfortably on a table
3. Place the mouthpiece gently in the mouth making sure to maintain a tight seal over the mouthpiece during exhalation. If necessary, the doctor may recommend the use of a nose clip. If you wear a mask, apply it snug but comfortable over your nose and mouth
4. Breathe from the diaphragm as directed by the doctor, taking in a larger breath than normal without filling the lungs completely
5. Hold your breath for 2-3 seconds
6. Exhale actively, but not too forcefully, through the device. The exhalation should last approximately 3 to 4 times longer than the inhalation
7. Take 10-20 PEP breaths, as recommended by the clinician. Remove the mouthpiece or mask and cough deeply 2-3 times to raise secretions if necessary. The doctor will be able to tell you if the appropriate coughing method is necessary
8. Repeat the above steps as many times as instructed
With the acapella® choice device, a nebulizer can be installed
Cleaning Instructions:
For cleaning, read the instructions for use carefully
- The use of metal for acapella® choice is not recommended (it may damage the nickel-coated mechanism inside)
- The device cannot be placed in the microwave (the metal and the magnet could deteriorate)
- It is advisable to check that all connections are secure.
- Four parts are cleaned: 1) The mouthpiece, 2) The base unit (with frequency adjustment selector>), 3) The lid and 4) The rocker unit (the rocker arm is not disassembled from its base platform). To remove the rocker unit, place your thumb and forefinger on both sides of the grooved surface and slowly lift up
- Cleaning must be carried out before disinfection and is carried out with liquid dishwashing liquid (two tablespoons of liquid detergent per half liter of water): remove the mouthpiece and, together with the device, immerse them in hot soapy water to remove visible contaminants.
- Rinse everything with plenty of clean water. Let the pieces air dry
Note: The manufacturer recommends the use of distilled or boiled water for five minutes, for cleaning and disinfection in general, in order to reduce the possibility of public network water calcifying the metal components of acapella ® choice
For disinfection:
Read the instructions for use. The following procedures can be used:
- Boiling: Boil the device in water at 100ºC up to twice a day for five minutes
- Autoclave: The temperature should not exceed 136 ºC for a maximum of 30 cycles
- Automatic dishwasher: It is recommended to place the pieces in the upper part of the dishwasher
- 70% Isopropyl Alcohol: Soak parts for five minutes and rinse
- Glutaraldeidos: It is about immersing the pieces in cold sterilization solutions
- 3% hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide) for 3 minutes, rinse with sterile water
Cautions and Warnings:
- It is advisable to read carefully the contraindications that must be evaluated before starting therapy with acapella® choice that appear in the instructions for use
- Using this device at excessive pressure may cause adverse effects.
- The 6 months of useful life recommended by the manufacturer with regular use of the device, start counting from the date of its first use
- For the disposal of acapella® choice, it must be done in accordance with the regulations for medical waste disposal
