Material and Manufacturing Process

The Elativ pillow is filled with cold polyurethane foam, which is the interior material of ALL foam pillows on the market (including “viscoelastic pillows”).

However, there are large differences in the quality of the polyurethane and the manufacturing process:

- Poor quality pillows deform and lose their initial shape in a relatively short time. Elativ instead keeps its shape intact for a long time.

- Poor quality pillows have an outer layer that does not allow perspiration. Elativ has an "open pores" surface for the skin to breathe.

- Poor quality pillows (which are not always the cheapest ones) have a bad smell (synthetic smell). This smell is typical of poor quality products, and even worse, it is extremely toxic! (The risks of exposure to isocyanates are well known). Some manufacturers add a perfume to try to mask this toxic smell that the material gives off. Normally when buying a pillow or mattress in the store the consumer does not perceive this synthetic smell. However, when using the mattress or pillow for a whole night, the contact of body heat with the material generates toxic gases that are harmful to health.

Elativ pillows hardly smell because:

- Only German polyurethane is used

- The pores of the foam are exploited under pressure immediately after the "foaming" process and then the core is tempered to a specific temperature so that the unstable isocyanate gases evaporate. The temperature used in the process is higher than 36.8 ° C of body temperature, so stretching on the pillow overnight will not generate more gases.

- This process of "tempering" costs time, energy, and money, but it is very important. Most manufacturers do not invest in this process so vital to consumer safety.
